This is a brand new venture for me, and I appreciate the trust you’ve placed in me. I can’t wait to share some of my favorite travel experiences with a remarkable group of women.
First, we have to take care of some business. Please read through the disclaimers below, and then use the appropriate Paypal button to either pay your deposit or set up your installment plan.
I’m choosing our lodging, food, guides and tour companies with the same care I use when I make choices for myself, but I cannot be responsible for the actions and services of others.
Your space will be reserved when I have received your deposit or first installment payment. Deposits are non-refundable. Balance is due 30 days before the first day of your event, and becomes non-refundable at that time. If for any reason I have to cancel your event, I will refund your money in full but your flights may not be refundable.
I recommend travel insurance (I use World Nomads) that covers cancellations, lost luggage, theft, and medical emergencies. I also recommend patience and a positive attitude when traveling in developing countries. Things rarely happen exactly as planned, time is more flexible, and it’s important to go with the flow and experience life in these countries as it is.
By choosing a payment option below, you are agreeing to the above disclaimers.
Pay a $200 deposit now to secure your space; the balance will be due 30 days before your event. (If you’ve chosen the Desert Tour option, you can pay the $200 for that after you arrive in Morocco.)
All-Inclusive Plan only: Pay the first of four installments of $235 (If you’ve chosen the Desert Tour option, you can pay the $200 for that after you arrive in Morocco.)
If you have trouble with these buttons or prefer not to use Paypal, e-mail me.
Ready for a weeklong slumber party in an exotic locale?
SORRY BUT ALL SPOTS ARE NOW FILLED
This is a new idea I’m trying — inviting women to come stay with me and explore the world together.
My goal is to keep costs down while making sure everyone has an amazing experience. I want the entire week of adventures to cost less than most people spend on a hotel. To keep costs down, we’ll share a house. We’ll be comfortable, but your sheets won’t get changed every day, we’ll eat some of our meals in, and we might even take a bus or other local transportation at times.
Where we won’t skimp is on cultural experiences. I want you to meet people, explore the terrain, learn about the culture, and taste the food. We’ll hire native guides, go for hikes and long explores, and learn about music, food and culture.
I’m offering two pricing options: pay one all-inclusive price and don’t think about money again, or control your expenses by paying for room and board and then adding only the activities you want.
At the end of the week, you can choose to stay for an optional three-day, two-night excursion into the desert to spend the night under the stars in a Bedouin camp. If you have the time, I highly recommend it.
Come join me in Marrakesh for an unforgettable adventure!
Two week-long adventures, each available to the first 7 who register.
May 15-21; optional Desert Tour May 22-25
May 28-June 3; optional Desert Tour June 4-6
Our riad (traditional-style Moroccan house) is simple but comfortable. It’s a modern home in a walled compound, peaceful and secure, with air conditioning, wi-fi, and plenty of bathrooms. We’ll bunk two women to a room, but each with our own bed.
Within the compound, you’ll have access to swimming pools, cafes, and convenient shops to pick up whatever you need. We’re within walking distance of the medina (old city), but with lots of peace and quiet.
Day 1: Arrivals
We’ll be getting everyone picked up from the airport and settled in their rooms. We’ll share a late dinner and get to know one another. You might want to arrive
Day Two: Tour of Marrakech & Secret Garden
We’ll take it easy while everyone recovers from jetlag. Morning yoga, a leisurely breakfast, and then we’ll head to Jmaa el Fnaa, the glorious market square in the center of the Medina to explore and have lunch.
After lunch, we’ll have a 4-hour guided tour of the city. We’ll visit a mosque, see the old Jewish Quarter, learn about Moroccan spices and sweets, and more, ending with a visit to the magnificent palace garden known as Le Jardin Secret. Dinner will be back at the riad.
Day Three: Flavors and Sounds of Marrakech
After our morning yoga practice and breakfast, we’ll enjoy a guided tour of the tastes of the city. Our tour will include 10 tastings of local delicacies and a tea ritual, as well as the opportunity to learn more about local spices and see how the food is prepared.
Later in the day, we’ll have a second tour that takes us into the heart of Moroccan culture through music and arts. We’ll learn about traditional Moroccan guitar-making and enjoy live music performances and a contemporary art exhibit.
We’ll have dinner at a nice restaurant in the Medina (not included).
Day 4: Mosque & Palace Tour
After yoga and breakfast, we’ll spend the morning visiting some of Marrakech’s most famous buildings. We’ll tour the Koutoubia Mosque and explore the courtyards, gardens, and pavilions of the Bahia Palace. Well also see the Saadian Tombs and the Tiskiwin Museum, which showcases the ancient Saharan caravan routes between Marrakech and Timbuktu.
We’ll go out for lunch and have a relaxing afternoon in the riad. Then we’ll enjoy a market tour and a cooking class in the evening with Karim.
Day 5: Souks & Artisans Tour, Evening In The Square
After yoga and a leisurely breakfast, we’ll spend about four hours in the souks (market streets) near the Jemaa El Fna Square. Our tour will include typical Moroccan products like dried fruits, carpets, and textiles. We’ll visit a cooperative where women with disabilities are creating clothing, and we’ll learn about the dying of textiles and the leather market. Our guide will be available to help you negotiate purchases if you wish.
This tour will include tea and a snack, but we’ll return to the riad for lunch and a bit of well-earned downtime.
In the evening, we’ll head back into the marketplace to see what it’s like after dark. We’ll enjoy live entertainment by the remarkable street performers in Jemaa El Fna Square, and have dinner overlooking the plaza.
Day 6: Hiking in the Atlas Mountains
After yoga and breakfast, a driver will pick us up and take us into the mountains (about a two-hour drive). We’ll pass a kasbah on our way to the village of Imlil, just below the highest mountain in North Africa — Mount Toubkal.
We’ll fortify ourselves with mint tea and then hike for about 4 Km (2.5 miles) to another Berber village, Aremd, where we’ll enjoy more refreshments. We’ll learn about the Berber traditions of living in harmony with the land, and we’ll enjoy lunch (included) either at a Berber home or at the Kasbah of Toubkal.
We’ll celebrate with dinner on the town in Marrakesh (not included).
Day 7: Hammam, Dinner Show
We’ll go together to the hammam after a leisurely morning to be scrubbed and refreshed! If you want massage services, we can arrange that as well.
We’ll also have lunch at a reasonably-priced local restaurant (on your own.)
Then, since you know your way around the market a bit by this time, we’ll use any extra time as an opportunity to do one last bit of shopping and sightseeing before dinner.
In the evening, we’ll have a spectacular final dinner together at the Chez Ali Fantasia Dinner and Show. This is a very touristy thing, but tourists love it for good reason. We’ll drive about 30 minutes to a desert oasis in a tent draped with Moroccan curtains and laid with traditional carpets.
The show includes Berber music, dancing, horseback riding, acrobats, and fireworks. We’ll get home from this sumptuous evening around midnight.
The meal is included, drinks available for purchase.
Optional: 3-day, 2-night Desert Tour $200
Week 1: Desert Tour May 22-25
Week 2: Desert Tour June 4-6
We’ll travel in comfortable vehicles into the Atlas Mountains and see kasbahs, valleys, an oasis, and more. We’ll spend the first night in a hotel, and the second night we’ll ride on camels into the desert and spend the night under the stars in a Bedouin camp.
Price includes lodging, transportation, and all meals except lunch on the way back. Your luggage can remain safely locked in our riad during this trip.
